Over 30 years experience, in both the public and private sector.
Have worked with and been trained by federal, state and local law enforcement across the country. Most recently with the Detroit Police Department's Crime Intelligence Unit, specifically assigned to the Counter Terrorism and Threat Analysis Team.
Initiated, in partnership with the New York City Police Department, a program known as DPD Shield. Shield is part of a nationwide public/private partnership aimed at strengthening relationships throughout the community to increase the safety and security of everyone.

ACTIVE SHOOTER AWARENESS
& PREPARATION (ASAP)
Active shooter attacks are dynamic events - they are very loud, extremely frightening and no two attacks are the same. There is no pattern or standard procedure used by these criminals and therefore there is no single procedure, or sets of procedures, we can recommend to fit all active shooter situations.
The Department of Homeland Security describes an active shooter as "an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area." Most shooting events are not classified as active shooting events but instead - workplace violence, terrorism, domestic violence, drug/gang activity, etc.
We provide information designed to raise the awareness - and enhance the safety and survivability - of anyone confronted with an active shooter situation. The information is applicable anywhere active shooters have historically sought their targets - in large and small cities; in business or manufacturing settings; at community events or houses of worship; at educational and medical facilities. In effect, nearly everywhere we, and those we love, are living our lives.
Whatever name we use to identify these events it is important to realize that people are dying where they work, where they worship, where they are educated, and where they enjoy life with friends and family in public places.

Additionally, we offer table top drills and active shooter emergency exercises that test emergency procedure and plans. I asked John to present his Active Shooter training to the Saint Clair Shores Democratic Club after learning so much from him at my job's training.
